IE 7 Trick: Bring the address bar below Menu bar

Most people I have met who have upgraded to Internet Explorer 7 want to change the position of address bar in Internet Explorer 7 as in Internet Explorer 6. As we are used to Internet explorer 6 where the address bar is placed below the menu bar it is too convenient to get the same interface in Internet Explorer 7. Here is a simple registry tweak that will facilitate to show the address bar below the menu bar in Internet Explorer 7. This shows how IE 7 address bar looks without the tweak:

Note: Before performing these steps you should be logged in to your computer with administrative rights to modify the registry settings.

Here are the steps:

1. Click Start and Run.

2. Type ‘regedit’ and then click OK.

4. Locate the following registry subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser
Note If the WebBrowser key does not exist, you must create it. To do this, follow these steps:

a. Right-click on Toolbar, point to New, and then click Key.
b. In the New Key #1 box, type WebBrowser, and then press ENTER.

5. Right-click WebBrowser, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.

6. In the New Value #1 box, type ITBar7Position, and then press ENTER.

7. Right-click ITBar7Position, and then click Modify.

8. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.

9. Exit Registry Editor, and then re-start Internet Explorer 7.
