Remote Desktop is an application program or features in the Operating System that allows accessing system located at a different place then your physical location. It allows applications to be run remotely on a server, while being displayed locally. Remote desktop applications have varying features. Some allow attaching to an existing user’s session (i.e. a running desktop) and “remote controlling” it from your own desktop or laptop. Taking over a desktop remotely is a form of remote administration. There are quite a lot of advantages of using a rempte desktop application/service like:

  • Monitoring and managing an office server.
  • Access office PC and work from home.
  • Support staffs can provide remote support as if they were sitting in front of the machine. Troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Take a client through training by controlling his / her machine.

Remotely controlling another machine has become an essential and useful requirement for many people, because of this demand, many remote desktop solutions have emerged in the market today. Here goes a list of 5 widely used remote desktop application/services.

1. LogMeIn (Windows/Mac)

LogMeIn- Free gives you fast, easy remote access to your PC
from any computer with an Internet connection. It is easy, free and fast. You can also view live movie streaming on your friends computer. This may require a permission or a complete setup so that you can take remote any time from any where.

It is a beautiful, smart and secure software. I have used it and I love to use it to take remote of my house computer. The most interesting part of this is, this works smooth also on a very slow connection. Help your friends or take help from your friends using this magnificent remote software.

This has lot more options to change screen resolution, keyboard and mouse behavior. Very powerful software indeed!

2. Team viewer

TeamViewer- is ready to use, right after downloading! Download, execute, and get started! – Your first session will start in less than a minute.

You just have to install, rather Run it and it will run through the temporary files and need not have to be installed. This helps if the computer on which you are working has restrictions through the administrator.

Magnificent software to take control immediately however there needs to be a user on the computer you would like to remote control to click Yes so that the control can be provided to the user on the remote computer.

3. CrossLoop

CrossLoop- simplifies the process of securely working with friends located in different physical locations and across different network environments. CrossLoop enables you to see the screen and control the mouse and keyboard on a remote computer. It is as if you are working side by side at the same PC. You can get up and running with CrossLoop in under 2 minutes. Simply download and install the application and it will automatically configure itself to your network environment. Beautiful software for quick connection.

5. Windows Remote Desktop Connection (Windows)

Windows Remote Desktop-the default remote desktop application that comes bundled with Windows-is a free but still a very powerful tool (although not very rich features) for most Windows users looking for full-featured remote desktop control. If you’ve never checked this then you can take a look at the Remote Desktop Connection application located in the Accessories folder of Start menu.

You can share your thought and experience with any other remote desktop application in the comments section.
