G.ho.st your online Operating System
How about accessing your own Operating System from any where you go? I never thought that technology can go so far until I saw this online Operating system called G.ho.st. It is the short for Global Hosted Operating SysTem and also the Internet address to access the Operating system. It is a Virtual Computer (VC) which can be launched with the help of s standard web browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox.
It provides a complete online computing environment. The interface is similar to the Windows Operating system much resemblance to Vista due to transparency effect. This entire G.ho.st application is based on flash and provides a life time experience. G.ho.st provides every person in the world with a free Virtual Computer (VC). The VC is a personal computing environment which includes your desktop, your personal settings, your files and your choice of software applications and everything starting from the desktop background to applications can be customized and added according to your own wish as in your own computer. The VC is installed and runs on professional data centers. In order to access the service you need to sign-up. No need to worry, the sign-up is absolutely free and if you still do not want to sign-up then you can use the guest log-in feature. But guest login will not allow you to save your settings. It is like a demo account. A VC session can be compared to a terminal server session, except you are not logging in to your own home based PC.
Once you create an account and log-in, the VC assigned for you will startrunning and will be accessible from everywhere over the Internet. G.ho.st comes loaded with many applications like messenger, e-mail, widgets and document and spreadsheets, which makes online collaboration much easier. What more can you expect from an online and completely free OS.
Features:
1. A 3 GB online storage for data and another 3 GB for e-mail.
2. Built-in e-mail application with 3 GB storage.
3. Accesibility from any nook of the world.
4. VC is always on and up-to-date.
5. Complete data security as it is backed up regularly and also full privacy.
6. All kinds of web based softwares can be run.
7. Very interactive and user friendly interface. Ample customization oppurtunity with the help of gadgets.
8. Like the hibernation mode in Windows based PC, you can resume your work from the point you last left.
9. Personalized access URL in the form of g.ho.st?login ID for example g.ho.st?techiezone where techiezone is the login ID.
Remarks:
I am amazed as I never imagined that one day I will be able to have access to an online Operating system. (it was a dream for me). I think this is my finest discovery on the Internet in recent time. This program is still in Alpha phase so many more features are expected. The speed of access is not as fast in my case as I am using a low speed 300Kbps connection and my computer is also running slow for last 7 days. So if any one can access this service at normal speed, please put your comment.

You got me interested. Visited the site, created an account and proceeded to give it a go. It lacks polish, but I think it is very promising. The speed is not that great and I think they’ll have to improve the performance of the service, but this is only an Alpha of course. I love the mail client, and the storage means I can access my bookmarks, contacts and favorite mp3s from anywhere with an internet connection, and that’s what I’m using it now for.

@MBlueD
I am in agreement with you about the speed. It is not so promising but will try with a leased line connection and check how it works.

3 GB of online storage is not enough now a days. thanks for nice review.

Interesting. In what way would this be different to having your own web hosting account? I wouldn’t be happy leaving confidential info. on someone else’s server.

Personally I think it sounds like one of those ideas that sounds really amazing on paper but doesn’t pan out in the real-world market. Just like people thought Microsoft Bob would be a good idea for an OS because it was pretty-looking and easy for new users, it looks like they’re trying to do the same thing for a web hosting account.

Very interesting project, but are we sure that our data will be safe?

agreed with those USC TROJAN FAN up there, it sound interesting but I doubt it would fit and suitable market needed.. but never know is it failure or not if we didn’t catch it up in a real show.. as usual one simple movement more valuable than thousand of brilliant idea. CMIIW

Very interesting. There are also extension software (Link removed) offers which offers tweaks, extensions and all the package you want in a windows, both XP and Vista.

The important thing in this case is to think abt the security of files and other things.if its ok with that then its a great deal.
