A sneak preview of Wordpress 2.5

The most sought out version of Wordpress 2.5 has been released with much hoopla. Hats of to Matt and the team and also to the Wordpress community who has taken the pain for last couple of months for releasing this new version. There are a numerous list of improvement that has been added in Wordpress 2.5 and now it looks pretty cool. But certainly this is not the end of journey watch out for still more features to be added in coming releases.

The RC1 and RC2 release of Wordpress 2.5 came very quick within weeks gap and the final version took over the RC2 much quickly. Like all other upgrades, if you are planning to upgrade your current version of Wordpress to this Wp2.5, do not forget to take back up of the blog. You may also face issues with plug-in incompatibility. So check for the supported plug-in and download if there is any update for the plug-in available.

These are some of the salient features from a user perspective:

A fancy dashboard:

The dashboard with widgets support looks fancier and cleaner then any earlier version of Wordpress dashboard. The dashboard features a nice background color which enhances the look. The plug-in gadgets feature a list of useful plug-in taken out of the plug-in repository. Sadly the widgets are not movable.

Multi file upload:

The file uploader now has the support for uploading multiple files at once. It alos shows the progress bar and the uploading is much faster. Just browse to the folder from where you wish to upload and select as many file as you want.

Add Media:

While composing post, you can see new buttons fro adding Picture, video, audio and media. It supports directly entering a youtube video and see the preview, customize the size and put it in a post.

Search feature:

The new improved search feature can search both post and pages.

Tag support:

The Wordpress 2.5 has built-in support fro tags. You can play around with the tags. It will memorize all the used tags like the categories.

Concurrent editing:Another feature is that if you have a multi author blog and simultaneously more than one author is editing the post/page the dashboard will give you a warning about the post being edited by someone else.
