Gmail goes offline
Google is constantly adding new feature to it’s popular e-mail program Google mail. Google lab has now introduce another feather to Gmail known as Gmail Offline. So what does this Gmail Offline do?
Gmail Offline helps you to access your Gmail without an active Internet connection and it can be accessed in the same way as gmail from the web browser. It downloads all recent e-mail from google server and stores on your PC. So do not enable this feature in a public PC due to security reasons. To use this offline feature first we need to enable Gmail offline from Gmail lab. Once it is enabled we need to install it.
- Click on the green color gmail lab icon from the gmail interface. It will show all available gmail lab features.
- Click on Enable for Gmail Offline and click on save changes.
- Relogin to your gmail account and at the top near gmail lab icon you will see offline 0.1. Click on it and it will show a window as shown in the figure:
- Click on install. It will install Google gear and at the end of installation the browser will be restarted.
- In order to access gmail while you are offline, simply type the URL gmail.com.
With Gmail Offline, you can do all the function like you do in gmail while you are online. When you are offline and composing a mail, the e-mail will go to outbox and it will be sent as soon as you are connected to Internet.

I use gmail exclusively for everything and I have many different accounts as I’m sure we all do. But I have one primary gmail account I forward mail to from the other accounts. I assume offline mail will pick up the mail forwarded from the user’s other accounts, too?
Thanks for the info. I wasn’t aware gmail was available offline.

Im sure a lot more people will use gmail offline after today’s problems with gmail.
Of course you can’t send and receive emails offline but its good for a backup.
Thanks for sharing.

Seems like a good feature to use if your on an unsecure connection. A little off subject but do you know if you can create a password to place on excel docs in Google Docs?

This is a great feature, especially when you have dial up service. I guess I can compose the mail and it will be send automatically once I am online. Thanks for sharing this detailed information.
