Yes you read it right. Is not that something cool to have access to all your online storage like Google Docs, Picasa Web Albums, Windows Live Skydrive and Amazon S3 from the comfort of Windows Explorer. I am delighted to have access to this new little application? GLADINET is a free Windows application which enables you to achieve the much sought after features of integrating your online storage into your PC as one of the hard drive partition. Gladinet makes it possible by mounting a network drive for the intended storage thus relieving you from using the web interface of the specific storage service.

Before I go through the detail feature of the Gladinet application let me tell you about the online storage and services supported by this application:

Supported Online Storages:

Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3)
Microsoft Windows Live SkyDrive
Folders from Remote PCs (Running Gladinet client)

Supported Online Applications:

Google Picasa, Google Docs
Picnik Image Editing
SnipShot Image Editing
Image Author Image Editor
Zoho
ThinkFree

Apart from the above service and storage, Gladinet also supports single sign on for Google Mail, Google Talk and Google Calendar, Google Docs and Picassa. All the files from different google web application are shown as Virtual files and folders in the computer’s explorer once you login to the Gladinet client.

All your PCs running Gladinet client can be connected to form a virtual network and these PCs can be accessed remotely through RDP or RealVNC or UltraVNC. Folders from a remote PC connected to the web and running Gladinet client can be accessed from your PC as if you are accessing it from your own PC. These folders are mapped as virtual folder from the remote PC.

Features of Gladinet:

- Compatible with both Windows XP and Vista. (No support for earlier version of Windows)

- In near future Linux and MAC versions are expected.

- Access most of your online storage and services at one place from the comfort of Windows Explorer.

- Enables moving files from one service to another just like copy/pasting files between different folders.

- Ability to access data from remote computers and remote conenction to other PCs.

- On demand sharing with friends and clients.

- One click access to all your favorites from PCs you use at different locations. So no more tension in replicating the same data in different machines. These files from remote PCs can be mapped as virtual drive/folder and can be accessed from windows explorer.

- File type association with Google docs, Zoho, picnic etc. It enables you to open a Word document on your PC without having a Microsoft Word application or edit photo without a photo editing program.

Demerit:

- Not compatible with older version of Windows.

- Need to have an internet connection with decent speed for avoiding the lags.

In current scenario our work place is not limited to a single location as we are constantly moving from place to place. In this parlance an application like Gladinet that helps us in assimilating all your files at one place and helps us in accessing them from the comfort of our browser is an inevitable one.
